The building brief

The word retirement has come to mean something a lot more than just not working, particularly when you live in beautiful Snells Beach.  

Our clients were looking for good design, low maintenance and a great building experience for the new home build on their waterfront property. They wanted a custom-built home that would allow them to age in place. Their new “forever-home” needed to accommodate a variety of life stages and lifestyles, as well as have a media room and 3-bay garage. Above all, they wanted their new home to be easy care.

Our clients came to us frustrated. They were looking for a comfortable, low-maintenance home that would stand the test of time yet make the most of their waterfront property. They had found getting pricing and solid plans and ideas from house building companies difficult. That process had delayed their building plans – not time they wanted to waste.

We introduced them to our design consultants and drafting team. Within a few short weeks they had a plan they loved.

To keep the house as low maintenance as possible, yet not sacrifice style, the exterior cladding on the single-storey home is brick and weatherboard. The home has underfloor heating, double glazing and is tiled throughout. The bathrooms and wet areas have wide access to ensure easy living.

For our clients, having someone there to organise the tradespeople, insist on the highest standards and monitor progress was vital, and key to such a pleasant building experience.

As with any custom-built home, the best results come when you address planning issues and neighbourhood concerns early on. We helped with submitting plans to council, were available for discussion and tweaks along the way and oversaw the installation of the designer kitchen, and integrated data and audio system for the media room.

Ease of life is important for so many of our clients. In this case, easy care landscaping was key, so we helped organised the landscaping, planting, decks and concrete areas. Grass was kept to the bare minimum, ensuring free time to relax and enjoy the views.
